Come & See
"Master, where do you live?" "Come and See". Jn 1:38-39
Young women who have the desire of joining the Missionaries of Charity, may be permitted to spend a period of two weeks in one of our communities in order to become more acquainted with our way of life, and so to be enabled to decide their vocation. This is what we call “Come & See.”
When a young girl writes that she would like to join us, I write back saying, “Come & See”. We call that time ‘Come & See’, and they come and see because young people today want to see more than to hear. [They think], “You speak of prayer, then how do you pray? You speak of love in action; then how do you live that love in action? You speak of loving one another, how do you love one another?” They want to see it. They spend 2 weeks with us, they have the chance to see us and we have the chance to see them in prayer, in the service of the poor, in the life of the community together, and we see if they really have that health of mind and body, [if] they really have enough common sense, … that cheerful disposition. These are the 3 things that we [need to] see and they want to see in us that love for one another, they want to see how we touch the poor, how we go to the poor, what we do to the poor.
